The Nikon Coolpix S70 is an impressive leap forward in design and functionality from its predecessor, the S60. That camera, while it had an excellent design, had a touch-screen LCD that was occasionally frustrating to use; that's not great considering its operation was nearly all touch-based. The S70's OLED screen is not only bright and beautiful, but also very responsive, allowing for a few cool new features along with improvements to older ones. It's a little slow for shooting much more than portraits and landscapes, and its photos are merely very good for a point-and-shoot--which is hard to swallow given its price. But if you love having a touch screen and don't mind paying for it, the S70 is a lot of fun.

Summary

The Foveon technology enables the Polaroid x530 digital camera to produce superb 8″ x 10″ images – the largest print size that most consumers will print. The camera takes advantage of several key features of the X3 direct image sensor including X3F raw file format image capture, video clip capture at VGA resolution, and Foveon’s recently introduced X3 Fill Light software. The X3 Fill Light software tool digitally simulates the photographic method of “dodging and burning” adding extra light to shadow regions, while preserving highlight detail. It is a powerful method for simultaneously adjusting overexposed and underexposed areas of a digital image with a single simple control.

Polaroid doesn't exactly reign supreme in the digital-camera market, so we were quite surprised to hear that the company would be the first to roll out a consumer model with Foveon's buzzworthy 4.5-megapixel X3 sensor. But that technology may not be enough to distinguish the x530 from a crowd of tough competitors.

Upside: The X3 sensor shows lots of promise. Its filter technology assigns each pixel red, green, and blue rather than just one of the three. Because there's no color-filter array, the sensor doesn't have to reconstruct missing color data and generate the attendant postprocessing artifacts. To learn more, check out Foveon's Web site. For the chip's latest iteration, dubbed the F19, the company made substantial design and manufacturing changes intended to decrease noise and increase light sensitivity.

Downside: Very sketchy preliminary specifications, among them a 3X zoom, indicate that if it weren't for the Foveon sensor and 30-frame-per-second VGA movie capture, the x530 would be unremarkable. Plus, its dysfunctional family tree might make the camera seem like a risky buy. It's branded by Polaroid, manufactured by World Wide Licenses, and distributed in the United States by Uniden, a company known for its cordless phones.

Outlook: When the Polaroid x530 ships in June at a list price of $399, the camera will seem expensive compared with the growing numbers of budget 4- to 5-megapixel models. Polaroid will need more than a newfangled sensor and VGA movies to grab the public's attention.

The canon ixus camera is a very unique example of technology when it comes to cameras. It is very flexible and compact and can be carried easily in your pocket. Most models have on average 7 mega pixels and optical zoom up to 3 times that of any other type of digital camera.

It has a large LCD screen which is beneficial in making the menu easier to read. Not to mention the picture quality which is excellent.The picture does not get hazy or misty even in very light areas. Even in dark areas the picture is very clear. The picture quality and management of color is superb. There is face detection tools built into the camera and this works wonders on outdoor shots.

Even in an indoor setting with low light the camera focuses well. A well balanced image is the result of an evenly distributed light given off by the flash.The body of the canon ixus camera is very solid and hard. It is small and has the latest technology built in.

With an extending zoom lens and a quick start up you can see why it is an all time favorite for many people. The optical view finder is just one of many features this camera has. It has an auto focus system which works slow in dim light and fast in bright light.The auto focus system helps to focus in darker areas and has a range of 4m and an in built flash range of 6 m.

There are three shooting modes ie auto, manual, and shooting modes. In all of these modes the settings can be adjusted simply be activating the function button.The canon ixus camera includes up to, or more than 7 pixels (depending on model type) and high quality lens. It maintains a good quality picture at all times in all types of conditions.
